Program Description:
Hong Kong
June 21–July 30
The students in Hong Kong are desperately in need of hope. Many of them come from homes that don’t believe in anything and there is a population of mainland Chinese students who are experiencing the spiritual openness of Hong Kong for the first time.
Hong Kong culture tends to be one of high stress and this summer you have the opportunity to share
love in a culture where love is not always expressed in the home. We teach in Hong Kong because
many of the future influencer’s of Asia are there and we have the unique opportunity to help shape
their futures with quality English education.
A huge, international metropolis, Hong Kong is our fast-paced, bright-lights, big-city option. As you teach, your team will encounter the unmatched energy of Southeast Asia’s most captivating world  city—filled with beautiful mountains and oceans. Teams will enjoy a one-week Vision Trip at the end of the program in which you journey to another country where ELIC has a long-term presence—your time in Laos, Cambodia, or Mainland China will provide the perfect bookend to your journey.

TYPICAL DAY:
You will start each day with three hours of conversational English teaching to your own class of 20 teenagers. This classroom time is meant to be fun, dynamic, and interactive. There are no lectures and no tests. Over lunch, you will meet up with your students to get to know them outside of the classroom. In the afternoon, you and your teammates will come together to conduct a few hours of high-energy games and cultural presentations for all your students combined. These are outside the classroom activities and create opportunities for amazing conversations with your students. Evenings are spent primarily with your team. Not only will you need time to plan for the next day, but you’ll also enjoy a time of intentional community, fellowship, and reflection. Some evenings, your team will be invited by your students to hang out off campus. This means exploring the city, experiencing local markets, and investing time in the relationships you’re forming.

Teachers stay in a retreat center with dormitory housing, sharing a room with one or more teammates during their stay.
This summer
, you will be responsible for raising $4,900 to cover program costs. This includes all food, housing, sightseeing opportunities, medical and evacuation coverage, orientation, training, debriefing, visa and document processing, donor receipting, curriculum, and contracts with your schools or teaching locations. Your profile does not cover your domestic travel or any souvenirs or other items you choose to purchase. ELIC does not profit in any way from your program cost.
